Marport — trawl sensors
Home / Equipment catalogue / Marport — trawl sensors
Marport door and headline sensors monitor trawl geometry and behaviour, providing depth, temperature and motion information.
Door sensors
Door sensors communicate with each other to determine door spread. They wirelessly transmit tilt, depth, temperature and battery percentage, with a reported update rate of up to twice per second.
• Transmission frequency: 30–60 kHz.
• Transmission beam: 70°.
• Maximum reported range from the vessel: 2,500 m.
• Reported depth range: 1,600 m.
• Pitch & Roll: ±90°, with 0.1° accuracy.
• Depth resolution: 0.1 m, with reported accuracy of 0.1%.
• Temperature: −5°C to +25°C, with accuracy of ±0.1°C.
• Lithium-ion battery. Typical operating time: 200 hours. Charging time: 8–12 hours.
• Door sensor weight: 5.0 kg in air / 0.9 kg in water.
Headline sensor
The headline sensor monitors trawl conditions and measures current on two axes. Its readings help the operator respond to cross-currents, sloping or uneven seabeds and unequal wire lengths.
The sounder function images below and above the headline, providing information about the opening and the area above it. Depth, temperature and Pitch & Roll readings are included.
• Transmission frequency: 30–60 kHz.

• Lithium-ion battery. Typical operating time: 200 hours. Charging time: 8–12 hours.
• Headline sensor weight: 16.0 kg in air / 4.1 kg in water.
Scala software
Scala lets users change the position and size of information windows. The system presentation includes activity recording for up to six months and playback of recorded data.
Fishing-gear position and M3 receiver
The system uses two hydrophones and three-point triangulation to calculate the position of the doors and trawl. The M3 receiver receives and processes the sensors’ acoustic signals and supports connection of up to three hydrophones.
Configuration confirmation
These values relate to the sensor configuration described. The exact version, operating limits and current warranty terms are confirmed when selecting equipment.
The equipment description lists a two-year warranty and six months for the battery. Request confirmation of the applicable terms for your quotation.
